Today I as looking up some info on a blogger that I interviewed for my thesis as well as for our project, and in browsing trough the latest post, I noticed that my name was mentioned. I am the American student named N who conducted an interview for my very specific (niche) thesis on French bloggers writing about Japan. It's a blogger whose blog I really admire and a very interesting person overall, so I feel somewhat privileged to have been today's inspiration for at least part of a post.
I have to admit I have been somewhat putting off and avoiding doing Skype interviews. For one, I only speak French once a week at present, and so I'm less confident in my being able to express myself over the phone and on the spot. (It turns out that in the end, I also don't know how to do the basic Instant message stuff to express myself either, so the phone is almost preferable) And for another, it's harder to organize interviews with something like a 9 hour time difference. Lastly I was worried as hell that someone might tell me that all I had theorized was wrong.
It was however less dramatic than I thought. I was complimented on my French at the end of the phone call and asked whether I had French parents - at which point I got flustered and my French went immediately downhill of course. And best of all, quite unexpectedly and without any prompting whatsoever, he confirmed my theories on the type of people taking part in the 'conversation.'
N = uber happy.
Alrighty, my nose is going to do a nice little faceplant into the grindstone / keyboard and I WILL get the million and three things done that I need to get done.
Today's random French vocab : Nuit Blanche which means an all-nighter, though somehow this has more of a party connotation in French...
